ST1 More Custom Textures WIP by Snowfall-The-Cat ST1 More Custom Textures WIP by Snowfall-The-Cat
So much art. So much painting.
I dont know if i am missing any, i have done a lot of worlds for my ST1 system this past while. I personally dont like the generated worlds space engine spits out. they look the same a lot to me, so i will make each world myself for my system.

####################################################

In no particular order the descriptions of each world:

Yopith: a cold dwarf planet. 1026Km radius

Eurenic: An icy moon of the 5th planet with a subsurface ocean and possibly life below. 1412Km radius.

Obseea: Another icy moon around the 5th planet. but no life and little to no liquid water ocean below. big round wavy impact features. 1921Km radius.

Winza: Another dwarf planet, inspired a bit by what our Sedna might look like. 552Km in radius.

Yatchik: The largest moon around the 6th planet. very cold desert with icy dust storms and a thick atmosphere. 2823Km in radius.

Elexda: An earth like planet that once had oceans and possibly life, but migrated in to close to its sun because of Jeulio's gravity, and it lost everything. now its just a dead 105°C wasteland with a thin atmosphere and dust storms. 7930Km in radius.

Arsitchulus: Another cold but very big dwarf planet. 5452km in radius.

########################################################

Painted and edited in GIMP and Blender3D. made for Space Engine. you will be able to explore these worlds all you like whenever i put out this system one day. not soon though.

great ! Do you know that you can work the texture with photos ? I don't mean NASA pictures of planet, but photos of ground, concrete, sand, gravel and much more ? It's what I do.

yep! = D that's what i do a bit too. you mean custom brushes for painting? Often i will use a brush to make lots of craters at once and also land areas. i know once i burned some holes in paper and it made a really cool cracking tectonic effect and it works really well for textures <3 i need to play with a few more tricks too. but its also handy to paint by hand too, because you can control the spastic unique features and where exactly they go so they don't repeat. so i use a mix of both = )

No I meant not brush, but picture like this :
Texture 11 by MadamGrief-Stock or this Sand Texture Stock 05 by Astralsteed or Texture 176 by Malleni-Stock

I mixed then via mode of layer and mask layer. I you want, I can make a step by step for one (with gimp, but I think it will work for photoshop)

ok if you like =) . i use GIMP. but i paint my planet textures in 3D so i can do the north and south poles properly so they do not get stretched.

Ok. I will do that with the next rocky planet :)

Hey thank you! :) too bad i didn't show all of their faces full, the crescents don't show much lol

What about Gif animation of rotating planets?

i could though I'm to lazy to figure out how to do that = s besides it leaves more surprise when i finally release it :)

Cool stuff. Man, I can't wait to download this addon and explore! I will wait though.:-) I think Obseea is my favorite here. I like those swirly formations. I also like Elexda. Interesting how it may have had life once.

(PS. I haven't commented on your Near Lands South Pole cuz the doggone thing won't let me download it. I'll keep trying when my internet connection decides to cooperate)

I'm glad you like them! :) I cant wait to finish it! but its fun to work on too haha. so far my textures folder is a little under 1 gigabit in size. D= I would do higher quality textures but that would be much more extra work, the amount of work needed for a texture increases exponentially with higher resolution. The ones you see here are at 2048X4096 pix. But for more important worlds like Oesha and its near by moons it is at 4096x8192 pix and painting an entire earth like world at that size by hand takes a LOT of time =s its sure well worth it though. :)

( that's OK it wont be going anywhere. Ive had other people say their antivirus warns of it, but i dont know why, its perfectly fine )

Haha, I hear ya. Working on something is half the fun.
Yeah, 8192px sounds about right, but yeah, that would be alot of work. Someone asked me to make their planet, and I'm thinking I'll do it in 4096px wide.
So, what exactly is your method of making the maps? Is much of it texture painted in Blender?

(Our internet connection here is so spotty, it's having a hard time downloading. It did the same with the last Far Lands one till it finally worked. XD)

Yes very much so all work in blender. i can do the polar caps no problem that way too without stretching them wrong or something. i just go to paint over them on a sphere.
I have the image already warped onto the sphere in the way i need and i just save the texture as i would with any other paint program, blender also has tablet sensitivity so i can paint them with a pen that way. though with worlds that have millions of little craters and sand dunes and stuff i will use a custom brush texture and just spray them around making the craters look very natural. but its very important to let features flow together or it might not look as good. I wanted to re make my Arsitchulus texture as it does not flow nicely because of that to me. it looks to random.

(oh no! i hope its not too big that it never finds a spot big enough =s though i think it is smaller in file size from the last one :) )

Although I have found good a way to do the in GIMP (Filters>Distorts>Polar Coordinates), It does only make sense to do it on a sphere, as it's meant to be.
I've had a graphics tablet for a few months, so that will be good to use. I'll probably have to learn how to make custom brushes though.
Yes, surfaces should have that nice aesthetics flow about them. One might assume that surfaces of real planets and bodies even in our own system would be just random, but their not. Each of them are a well-composed masterpiece! Fictional worlds should be no different.

I used to do it that way for my old solarsystem textures too. :)

yeah, for my brushes i just take bits of earths or moon bump map and pictures from mars HiRISE www.uahirise.org/ for some good HD textures. Also random stuff like bread and sponge and broken glass work really well too :) For blender you just got to make the black part of the images transparent and leave the white of the pattern you want.

exactly :) every time i see beautiful pictures of real planets i just think about how hard it is to make something like that. everything is connected on the planet.

Oh images of bread and sponge type stuff is brilliant! So all a brush for Blender is like just a .png or .jpg image?
So do you sculpt your worlds shape or just paint the bump map?

Ikr? It's amazing. Just think. If it takes talent to design beautiful fictional worlds like yours, could our real ones have gotten their elegantly composed patterns by chance, with no designer?

You need to use PNG so you have the transparency. :) I just paint the bump maps, it takes to much resource to sculpt such a detailed surface. i only sculpt for making asteroids but that's a completely different process in itself. lol i really need to make a you tube tutorial one day but i have no idea what software to use to capture whats on screen and voice.

Nice stuff. Interesting features and descriptions. On Arsitchulus though- "very big dwarf planet. 5452km in radius". That isn't a dwarf planet then. It's bigger than Mars! =P Just a nitpick, carry on.

I know i know ;p I did that because of the stupid "it must clear out its orbit to be a planet" Thing. But Arsitchulus is in such a big orbit it can not do that.

nevermind though. i have another "dwarf planet" around the B star in this system that is actually just a bit bigger then earth! It also orbits with a few other "dwarf planets" that are smaller in its orbital space too; so i guess it can never "clear" its orbit then. But they never come near enough because its orbit is the size of that of Uranus.
i just wanted to piss around with the planet debate i guess :)

Phil Plait said on his blog and Crash Course that if Earth was to be put in Pluto's place, it wouldn't be able to clear out the space either. The lines of what is a planet what is not are blurred, and there is no line to cross. =D

That's very true indeed! I would just love for them to find a mars sized object or something in the deep Kuiper belt just to mess them up even more. lol

We might find a planet that far out, maybe even in the oort cloud. I mean, look at Sedna's orbit.

Interesting stuff. There are also possibilities of "planets" which got 'ejected' into super elliptical orbits by the gravity of, say, Jupiter.

thats true. :) we may have also captured rogue planets too deep in the outer solarsystem from other stars.
